U.S. Representative Vern Buchanan, who has represented Florida’s 16th district in Congress since 2007, addressed issues ranging from medical billing transparency to political violence in a series of posts on September 12, 2025.
In his first post at 14:55 UTC, Buchanan wrote: “Nearly five years after the No Surprises Act became law, patients are still facing unexpected medical bills due to the Biden admin. Proud to join @WaysandMeansGOP in working with the Trump administration to ensure families receive the transparency and protections they deserve.”
Later that day at 15:31 UTC, Buchanan emphasized civility in public discourse, stating: “Violence must never replace debate. As a grandfather of ten young grandchildren, I want them to inherit an America where we can disagree without fear.”
Addressing recent events and advocating for peaceful expression of opinions, Buchanan posted at 16:05 UTC: “Our republic is built upon the idea that Americans can speak freely, debate and disagree peacefully. In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination and so many other tragedies of political violence, we must stand together. Read my @HeraldTribune op-ed: https://t.co/0RLwfHSTAQ”
Buchanan has served as a U.S. Congressman since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 and previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and now residing in Sarasota, he holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
