Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform this week to address Medicare enrollment and ongoing government funding negotiations.
On October 15, Buchanan posted about the annual Medicare Open Enrollment period, stating: “Medicare Open Enrollment begins today! From October 15 through December 7, you can review or update your 2026 coverage. Visit https://t.co/UcdFmDmTg6 for assistance.”
The following day, Buchanan commented on government spending debates: “Reopening the government shouldn’t come with a $1.5 trillion price tag. Americans deserve accountability, not these reckless demands.” Later on October 16, he added criticism of congressional Democrats’ approach to budget negotiations: “Florida families deserve leadership, not partisan games. @HouseGOP passed a clean CR to fund the government, but instead of joining us, Democrats are holding the government hostage. It’s time they put the American people first and end the shutdown.”
Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th district since 2007 after succeeding Katherine Harris and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, Buchanan is an alumnus of Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
