U.S. Congressman Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district, posted a series of tweets between August 16 and 17, 2025, highlighting military history, public safety initiatives in Washington D.C., and investment in American manufacturing.
On August 16, Buchanan marked National Airborne Day by honoring military personnel: “Happy National Airborne Day! Today marks 85 years since the first U.S. military parachute jump on August 16, 1940. We salute our airborne veterans and servicemembers for their courage, skill and unwavering dedication to defending our nation.”
Later that day, he commented on a new policy involving law enforcement collaboration in the nation’s capital: “D.C. police will now work with ICE to take violent criminal illegal immigrants off our streets. Let’s make our nation’s capital safe again! “
On August 17, Buchanan highlighted a significant corporate investment in U.S. manufacturing: “Philips is investing $150M in U.S. manufacturing, creating hundreds of jobs and producing critical hospital equipment here at home. We’re bringing jobs and manufacturing back to America. “
Buchanan has served as the congressional representative for Florida’s 16th district since 2007 after succeeding Katherine Harris. He previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives and resides in Sarasota. Born in Detroit in 1951, Buchanan graduated from Cleary University and later from the University of Detroit Mercy.
