Rep. Vern Buchanan, who has represented Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress since 2007, posted a series of statements on July 24, 2025, addressing healthcare reform, law enforcement protections, and veteran recognition.
In a post at 15:28 UTC, Buchanan wrote, “Too often, our healthcare system is reacting to illness instead of preventing it. We keep spending more and getting less. That needs to change. We need more health incentives to support prevention and help Americans live healthier lives.”
Later that day at 17:28 UTC, he addressed an incident involving police officers in Ohio: “Three officers were ambushed in Lorain, Ohio, simply for wearing the badge. Praying for Officers Gale, Wagner and Payne as they recover. Congress must pass my Thin Blue Line Act to ensure those who target law enforcement face the full force of the law.”
At 20:13 UTC on the same day, Buchanan announced an initiative to honor military service members from his district: “Nominations are now open for the 2025 Congressional Veteran Commendation, which honors exceptional military and community service in Florida’s 16th District. If you know a veteran who deserves recognition, please nominate them by September 1st.”
Buchanan’s tenure in Congress began after replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 and follows prior service in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
