U.S. Representative Vern Buchanan, who has represented Florida’s 16th district in Congress since 2007, posted a series of statements on his social media account criticizing Democratic policies and expressing concern over international taxation proposals.
On October 16, 2025, Buchanan wrote, “Democrats are trying to undermine America’s health care system. Rather than partner with @HouseGOP and pass a clean CR, they are demanding Congress restore taxpayer-funded health care for illegals and repeal key reforms that protect patients.”
Later the same day, he addressed concerns about global taxation measures: “The @IMOHQ global carbon tax is a threat to American jobs, businesses and sovereignty. Abstaining is a de facto ‘yes’ vote. Every IMO member state must vote NO on this unaccountable global tax. Grateful for @POTUS, @SecRubio and @USTradeRep’s leadership.”
On October 17, 2025, Buchanan commented on the ongoing government shutdown: “The Democrat Shutdown is putting seniors’ health at risk. Patients who rely on telehealth and ‘Hospital at Home’ programs that I’m fighting to save are being cut off from care, all because Democrats refuse to pass a clean funding bill.”
Vern Buchanan has served as U.S. Representative for Florida’s 16th District since succeeding Katherine Harris in 2007 and previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
