Rep. Vern Buchanan, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, recently shared updates on his legislative activities and policy priorities through a series of posts on social media.
On July 23, 2025, Buchanan emphasized support for the U.S. Coast Guard, stating: “We must ensure that our military remains the most lethal fighting force in the world. Today, I voted to reauthorize and strengthen the @USCG by increasing maritime security, modernizing equipment and ensuring they have the tools to protect and defend our shores.”
Later that day, he addressed fiscal policy initiatives with a post about new legislation: “The ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ cuts taxes, reduces the deficit and puts America back on the path to economic prosperity—something Bidenomics could never deliver. Read @WaysandMeansGOP Chairman @RepJasonSmith’s op-ed on how our bill is working: https://t.co/LA995iXVpg” This message highlighted Buchanan’s stance against current economic policies associated with President Joe Biden.
On July 24, Buchanan turned attention to healthcare partnerships between government and industry: “Making America Healthy Again starts with working directly with the private sector to deliver smarter solutions. Great to meet with @DrOzCMS to discuss how we’re partnering with industry to improve health through nutrition and deliver better care.”
Buchanan has served in Congress since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 after previously serving in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and now residing in Sarasota, he holds degrees from Cleary University (1975) and University of Detroit Mercy (1986).
