Rep. Vern Buchanan, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, shared updates on meetings and advocacy efforts related to healthcare access, nutrition education, and global justice through a series of social media posts in mid-September 2025.
On September 14, Buchanan posted about a meeting with AllerVie leaders: “Productive meeting with leaders from AllerVie to discuss access to care and support for patients with chronic respiratory conditions. With a clinic in FL-16, their work is crucial to improving care for our community.”
The following day, he addressed the issue of nutrition education in medical schools. In his post dated September 15, Buchanan stated: “Nutrition education is vital to combat the chronic disease epidemic, but 75% of U.S. med schools lack required clinical nutrition classes. As @WaysandMeansGOP Health Chair, I led a letter with @RepMcGovern to the @acgme urging better nutrition education.”
Later on September 15, Buchanan highlighted engagement with constituents advocating for global justice: “Always grateful to meet with constituents advocating for global justice. Thank you to Philip and Paul @IJM from Bradenton for supporting victims and survivors and helping build safer communities worldwide.”
Buchanan has served as the representative for Florida’s 16th District since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007. He also previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and now residing in Sarasota, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University (1975) and the University of Detroit Mercy (1986).
