Rep. Vern Buchanan, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, shared several updates on his official X account on August 21, 2025. His posts addressed national security, congressional internships, and collaborative efforts to combat tax fraud.
In a post from the morning of August 21, Buchanan reflected on national security and the impact of terrorism. He wrote: “Today, we honor the lives lost to terrorism and stand with their families. We must continue to protect Americans, combat evil abroad and strengthen our defenses at home.”
Later that afternoon, Buchanan acknowledged the contributions of his summer interns. He stated: “Thank you to our district interns Jacob, Catalina, Daniella, Angelina, Katherine, Hayley, Alis, Sadie and Hannah for their great work during their internships this summer. Apply to intern in my D.C. or district offices: https://t.co/o6lAkh4Pdc https://t.co/VoDrf6dVgY” The message included an invitation for prospective interns to apply for future opportunities in his Washington D.C. or district offices.
In an evening post on the same day, Buchanan highlighted a legislative partnership aimed at improving tax fraud detection through technology. He wrote: “Proud to work with @RepDavid to empower the @IRSnews with AI tools to fight tax fraud. We must protect hardworking Americans’ tax dollars and strengthen fraud detection.”
Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th District in Congress since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota at age 71, Buchanan is an alumnus of Cleary University (BA) and the University of Detroit Mercy.
