Rep. Vern Buchanan, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has used his social media platform to highlight recent initiatives and community engagement efforts, including recognition of local artists, healthcare policy advocacy, and mental health awareness.
On May 11, 2026, Buchanan thanked participants in a national art contest: “Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2026 Congressional Art Competition! Congratulations to the winner ‘The Capitol,’ which will be displayed in the halls of Congress. The winners of the ‘Facebook Fan Favorite’ contest are: ‘Jammin’ Under the Sun’ will be displayed”.
In a post dated May 12, 2026, Buchanan addressed healthcare reforms and cost savings for taxpayers: “Accountable care models improve patient outcomes while lowering costs for taxpayers. @RepMGriffith and I led a letter to @DrOzCMS encouraging CMS to protect ACOs from fraud while ensuring providers have stable benchmarks to keep delivering quality care.”
On May 13, 2026, during Mental Health Awareness Month, Buchanan encouraged Floridians to seek support if needed: “During Mental Health Awareness Month, I want Floridians to know that it’s okay to not be okay. Reaching out to friends and family can be a powerful reminder that you’re loved, supported and valued. If you or someone you know needs help or a listening ear, call or text 988.”
Buchanan has served as representative for Florida’s 16th District since succeeding Katherine Harris in 2007. He previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives and was born in Detroit in 1951 before settling in Sarasota. Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University (1975) and the University of Detroit Mercy (1986).
