Rep. Vern Buchanan, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has recently posted a series of statements on social media highlighting his legislative initiatives and support for research and innovation.
On August 18, 2025, Buchanan marked World Breast Cancer Research Day by expressing his commitment to supporting ongoing research efforts. He stated, “Today is World Breast Cancer Research Day. 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. This is why I am proud to continue supporting life-saving research and treatments for all Americans.”
Later that day, Buchanan commented on recent developments in U.S. space policy, referencing an executive order from President Biden aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing and space technology. He wrote on August 18, “From Florida’s Space Coast, America is driving space exploration. @POTUS’ new EO will increase U.S. manufacturing and drive space innovation.”
On August 19, Buchanan addressed efforts to combat tax fraud by announcing the introduction of new legislation alongside Rep. David Kustoff. In his post he said, “In FY24, the @IRSnews identified over $9.1 billion in fraud from tax and financial crimes Proud to introduce the DETECT Act with @RepDavid to direct the GAO to assess how AI can enhance fraud detection, because honest taxpayers shouldn’t bear the burden.”
Buchanan has served in Congress since succeeding Katherine Harris in 2007 and previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and now residing in Sarasota, he holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
