Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to highlight efforts in public health, law enforcement achievements, and educational excellence across his district.
On May 6, Buchanan posted about a meeting with health leaders from Florida State University, stating: “Prevention starts with nutrition and exercise. As Chair of the @WaysandMeansGOP Health Subcommittee, I met with @FloridaState ICON-Health leaders to discuss advancing nutrition research and tackling chronic disease through innovative solutions.”
Later that day, he congratulated Sheriff Chad Chronister for his career accomplishments: “Congratulations to @HCSOSheriff Chad Chronister for this achievement! Sheriff Chronister has served at HCSO for 34 years and has overseen a sustained decline in crime across Hillsborough County since he took over the agency in 2017. I’m grateful for his service and dedication.” The post recognizes Chronister’s leadership at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office since 2017.
On May 7, Buchanan announced recognition for local educators: “I’m proud to announce the recipients of my 2026 Congressional Education Awards! These educators and staff across Florida’s 16th District are champions of student success, and I’m honored to recognize them for their truly invaluable work.”
Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th District in Congress since 2007 after succeeding Katherine Harris. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951, Buchanan resides in Sarasota and holds degrees from Cleary University (1975) and the University of Detroit Mercy (1986).
