Rep. Vern Buchanan, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has used his social media platform to highlight concerns about America’s health care spending and outcomes, as well as efforts to improve support for youth aging out of foster care.
On April 16, 2026, Buchanan posted: “America spends $5.3T on health care, but we’re getting sicker. It’s time to focus on prevention and nutrition, helping Americans become the CEOs of their own health. We’re promoting real food, cutting ultra-processed foods and putting prevention first.”
Later that day, he continued the discussion by stating: “America spends more on health care than any country in the world, yet 6 in 10 Americans have a chronic disease. That’s why I brought the @WaysandMeansGOP Health Subcommittee to Southwest Florida to focus on prevention and real solutions.”
On April 17, Buchanan turned his attention to youth in foster care with another post: “Great to hear from @FLOTUS at the @WaysandMeansGOP roundtable on improving outcomes for youth aging out of foster care. Grateful for her leadership on this important issue and our shared commitment to supporting these young Americans.”
Buchanan is known for his long tenure in Congress after replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 and previously serving in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and now residing in Sarasota, he holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
