U.S. Representative Vern Buchanan, who serves Florida’s 16th district, posted a series of updates on August 26, 2025, highlighting both national remembrance and local achievements.
In his first post of the day, Buchanan reflected on the anniversary of the Abbey Gate bombing in Kabul: “Four years ago, 13 American heroes were killed during the Abbey Gate bombing in Kabul. Please join me and Sandy in praying for their families and loved ones, as we continue to honor their sacrifice. Their courage will never be forgotten.” (August 26, 2025)
Later that afternoon, Buchanan shared news regarding constituent services: “I’m proud to announce that my team and I have recovered $8.1 million in owed benefits from various federal agencies for FL-16 residents so far in 2025. If you’re having trouble with a federal agency, contact my Bradenton or Brandon office, or visit: https://t.co/x5hKdvfCYF” (August 26, 2025)
That evening, he turned attention to small business issues within his district: “Small businesses are the backbone of our local economies. Great to host a roundtable with local business leaders from Manatee and Hillsborough Counties to discuss the challenges they face and how Congress can support entrepreneurs and create more opportunities for growth.” (August 26, 2025)
Vern Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th District in Congress since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and now residing in Sarasota at age 71, Buchanan is an alumnus of Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
