Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, recently highlighted community recognition events and legislative developments through a series of posts on social media.
On August 6, 2025, Buchanan posted about his annual Law Enforcement Awards event: “Thank you to the 200+ individuals who joined us last night to honor over 50 of our community’s heroes at my annual Law Enforcement Awards in FL-16. These first responders represent the best of Florida’s 16th District.”
Later that day, he commented on recent legislative changes affecting seniors in his district: “Thanks to @houseGOP’s ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill,’ thousands of seniors in my district will no longer pay taxes on their Social Security. Promises made, promises kept. “
On August 7, Buchanan marked Purple Heart Day with a message honoring military service members: “As we commemorate Purple Heart Day, let us honor those whose valor and sacrifice represent true selflessness and the best of America. Please join me in recognizing these heroes for their remarkable service. May we never forget the sacrifices they have made.”
Buchanan has served as the representative for Florida’s 16th district since 2007 after succeeding Katherine Harris and previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, Buchanan is an alumnus of Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
