Rep. Vern Buchanan, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has highlighted legislative efforts aimed at supporting small nonprofits and businesses in a series of tweets posted on July 21, 2025.
In his first post, Buchanan addressed the challenges faced by small nonprofits regarding employee retirement benefits: “Small nonprofits should have access to the same tools as for-profits to offer retirement plans to their employees. I introduced the Small Nonprofit Retirement Security Act to expand access to retirement plans and help employees secure peace of mind.” (July 21, 2025)
Later that day, Buchanan responded to another user while promoting recent legislative initiatives: “Great points, @SBA_Kelly! The “One Big, Beautiful Bill” is a Main Street-first, pro-growth bill. Everyone wins: small businesses, manufacturers and working families. Our bill is strengthening the economy and putting America back on track.” (July 21, 2025)
In a third tweet, Buchanan referenced his own experience as an entrepreneur and explained his support for new legislation designed to assist small business owners: “As a small business owner for 30 years, I know firsthand how hard it is to start and grow a business. That’s why I voted for the Improving Access to Small Business Information Act to cut red tape and make it easier for the SEC’s small business advocate to support Main Street.” (July 21, 2025)
Buchanan’s career in Congress began in 2007 when he succeeded Katherine Harris as representative of Florida’s 16th district. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives and holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy. Born in Detroit in 1951, Buchanan currently resides in Sarasota.
