Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on his social media account highlighting legislative efforts and personal milestones.
On March 26, 2026, Buchanan emphasized the importance of early detection for Alzheimer’s disease, writing: “Breakthroughs in blood-based testing could help detect Alzheimer’s years before symptoms begin. Early detection means more options and better outcomes for patients, which is why I’m working to pass my ASAP Act and expand access to these screenings.”
The following day, March 27, he marked a personal occasion by posting: “Happy birthday to my beautiful wife, Sandy! From our days as college sweethearts to building a wonderful family together, I am so grateful for you every single day.”
Later that same day, Buchanan expressed appreciation for Senator Marsha Blackburn’s role in supporting his legislative agenda: “Grateful to @MarshaBlackburn for her leadership in advancing my American Innovation Act in the Senate. Together, we’re working to cut startup costs, support entrepreneurs and get this pro-growth, pro-small business bill across the finish line.”
Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th District since 2007 after replacing Katherine Harris. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives and has lived in Sarasota since moving from Detroit, Michigan where he was born in 1951. Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
