Rep. Vern Buchanan, who has represented Florida’s 16th District in the U.S. Congress since 2007 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives, recently shared a series of updates on policy initiatives and legislative actions via social media. Buchanan, born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, highlighted efforts on pharmaceutical pricing, space industry development, and agricultural trade.
On July 14, 2025, Buchanan addressed concerns about pharmaceutical pricing disparities between the United States and other countries. He stated: “Americans are paying more for medicines, while foreign countries keep their prices low and let the U.S. front the bill. I led a letter with @RepArrington and 33 colleagues urging @USTradeRep to address foreign freeloading and protect U.S. innovation and patients.”
Later that day, Buchanan expressed support for relocating NASA’s headquarters to Florida through new legislation. In his post dated July 14, 2025, he wrote: “Florida’s Cape Canaveral is the heart of America’s space program. Proud to cosponsor the CAPE Canaveral Act introduced by @RepDonaldsPress to move NASA HQ to the Great State of Florida—creating high-paying jobs and driving innovation on the Space Coast.”
In a subsequent update posted on July 14, 2025, Buchanan commented on recent developments affecting Florida agriculture: “Today’s termination of the Tomato Suspension Agreement is a big win for Florida’s tomato growers. I recently led a letter with @SenRickScott calling for termination after decades of unfair Mexican trade practices. We’re putting American farmers FIRST.”
Vern Buchanan graduated from Cleary University in 1975 with a BA degree and again from the University of Detroit Mercy in 1986.
