Rep. Vern Buchanan, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, posted a series of statements on social media during National Police Week and Endangered Species Day, highlighting his legislative actions and positions.
On May 13, 2026, Buchanan stated, “Today, I voted to honor the brave law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. During National Police Week, we remember these heroes, pray for their families and thank the men and women in blue who put their lives on the line every day to keep”.
Two days later, on May 15, 2026, he addressed bipartisan support for his proposed legislation: “Protecting those who protect us should never be a partisan issue. During National Police Week, I’m proud to share that my Thin Blue Line Act has received bipartisan support. I will always stand with our men and women in blue.”
That same day, Buchanan also emphasized environmental issues: “Florida’s endangered species are critical to our cultural heritage, our local economy and our way of life. I’m proud to lead this resolution with @RepDebDingell and @RepDonBeyer to designate today as ‘Endangered Species Day.'”
Vern Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th district in Congress since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives and is currently based in Sarasota. Born in Detroit in 1951, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University (1975) and the University of Detroit Mercy (1986).
