Rep. Vern Buchanan, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, shared updates on local initiatives and public health awareness through a series of posts on September 8, 2025.
In his first post, Buchanan expressed gratitude to local officials for their focus on port infrastructure. On September 8, he wrote, “Thank you, Commissioner Mike Rahn, for highlighting the importance of @SeaPortManatee on the @ManateeGov podcast. I’m proud to have helped secure $3 million in federal funding to strengthen our port, create jobs and support our community after last year’s hurricanes.”
Later that day, Buchanan acknowledged healthcare collaboration efforts within the state. In a tweet posted at 19:33 UTC, he stated, “Thank you, @BayCare. Together we’re advancing solutions that improve care, lower costs and keep Americans healthy. Proud to work with leaders across Florida’s health system to deliver results.”
Addressing mental health awareness in another message the same evening at 20:49 UTC, Buchanan noted the significance of “988 Day” and available support resources: “On 988 Day, I want Floridians to know that it’s okay to not be okay. Reaching out to friends and family can be a powerful reminder that you’re loved, supported and valued. If you or someone you know needs help or a listening ear, call or text 988.”
Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th district in Congress since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and now residing in Sarasota, he holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
