Rep. Vern Buchanan, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has recently highlighted tax policy and public health issues in a series of posts on his social media account.
On April 14, 2026, Buchanan emphasized the importance of fiscal responsibility by stating, “Hardworking Americans deserve to know their tax dollars are protected and put to work for them. That’s why @HouseGOP’s Working Families Tax Cuts include some of the toughest safeguards ever, cracking down on fraud, cutting waste and making sure every dollar truly benefits https://t.co/EKcIsBEqs0”.
Later that day, he addressed preventive healthcare measures following a Ways and Means Committee hearing: “Good nutrition, regular exercise and real food are essential to preventing chronic disease. During our @WaysandMeansGOP hearing, few believed our system truly supports prevention. If we want to fight chronic disease, we must make prevention a priority. https://t.co/8EE0CnVUQG https://t.co/8r1sVpLhdE”.
On April 15, coinciding with Tax Day in the United States, Buchanan outlined specific provisions of the House GOP’s tax plan: “This Tax Day, @HouseGOP is delivering real relief. The Working Families Tax Cuts lower taxes, boost refunds and help workers keep more of what they earn, by delivering: No Tax on Tips No Tax on Overtime No Tax on Social Security Promises made, promises kept. https://t.co/o3ppcuueoq”.
Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th District in Congress since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007; prior to this role he served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota at age 71, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
