Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently highlighted his legislative priorities and public appearances through a series of posts on social media.
On July 15, 2025, Buchanan criticized local policies in Los Angeles regarding immigration and emphasized border security efforts by federal agents. He wrote, “While brave Border Patrol agents rescue trafficked children and arrest violent criminals, LA’s mayor is handing out cash to illegals. This is unacceptable. The ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ puts Americans’ safety first.”
The following day, Buchanan announced his participation in a national policy summit hosted by The Hill. In his post dated July 16, 2025, he stated: “Proud to be joining this year’s @thehill’s Hill Nation Summit to discuss my work to restore the economy, cut taxes and put America first with the ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill.’ Tune in today at 11:10 AM here: https://t.co/XFwjODtk0Z”
Later that same day, Buchanan commented on his engagement with financial sector leaders: “Great to join leaders from across the banking industry to discuss tax policy, innovation and driving investment in our economy. I’ve been proud to work alongside Florida’s banking community throughout my career and to champion pro-growth reforms like the ‘One Big, Beautiful [Bill].’”
Buchanan has served as a member of Congress since 2007 after succeeding Katherine Harris. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota at age 71, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University (1975) and the University of Detroit Mercy (1986).
