Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to address issues related to military pay and government funding. Buchanan, a member of Congress since 2007, called for bipartisan action to ensure that U.S. troops receive their paychecks and highlighted recent private sector investments as evidence of economic resilience.
On October 14, 2025, Buchanan posted, “Paying our troops is not a Republican or Democrat issue; it is an AMERICAN issue. Proud to join my @HouseGOP colleagues who are military veterans to ask our Senate Democrat veteran colleagues to pass our clean CR and ensure our troops get paid.”
The following day, on October 15, 2025, he commented on the ongoing funding negotiations in Washington: “.@SpeakerJohnson is right: If not for @POTUS’ leadership, 1.3 million active-duty service members would be missing a paycheck today. But it shouldn’t have come to this. Senate Democrats need to do their job and join @HouseGOP to pass clean govt funding that pays our troops.”
Later that same day, Buchanan referenced a major investment announcement by a leading financial institution: “.@jpmorgan’s new $1.5T investment in U.S. industries is a testament to @POTUS’s America First agenda, which is restoring economic strength here at home. It’s time to reopen the government so more businesses have the certainty they need to keep investing.”
Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th district since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. He was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1951 and currently resides in Sarasota. Buchanan earned his undergraduate degree from Cleary University and later graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy.
