U.S. Congressman Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district, used his social media platform this week to call on Senate Democrats to pass a continuing resolution (CR) to reopen the federal government. Buchanan’s posts emphasized his party’s actions in the House and urged the Senate to act.
The following day, Buchanan reiterated his position, stating, “Two weeks ago, @HouseGOP passed a clean CR to keep the government open. 216 Republicans and even one Democrat voted to fund the government. The only thing standing in the way is Senate Democrats. It’s time for them to stop the games and vote to reopen the government.”
Later on October 8, Buchanan linked the issue to domestic manufacturing, posting, “Sharpie just proved that @POTUS’s America First policies are bringing manufacturing home, protecting American jobs and raising wages without raising costs. It’s time to reopen the government and give manufacturers the certainty they need to invest in American workers.”
Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th district in Congress since 2007, after previously serving in the Florida House of Representatives. He was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1951 and currently resides in Sarasota. Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
The current debate over the continuing resolution comes amid a partial government shutdown, with the House having passed a funding measure that has yet to be taken up by the Senate.
